Western Subalpine Warbler  The Nothe, Weymouth, Dorset, April 27th 2011

...a difficult bird to photograph as it spent most of the time feeding high up in trees. Although the red on the underparts was quite patchy (an age-related feature?) it looked to be too extensively coloured and maybe too orangey-toned to be an Eastern bird:

...with wings as faded brown as this it's surely a first-summer bird:

When it called, which wasn't particularly frequently, the usual note was a repeated Lesser Whitethroat-like 'tek', click here to have a listen to a recording of this call; just occasionally - in alarm? - it ran the 'teks' together into a staccato semi-chatter, click here to listen to that call.
